Wyoming auto loan calculator

What a financed car actually costs out the door in Wyoming — the sales tax this state really charges, whether it credits your trade-in, and what the payment does to what you can borrow for a house.

Wyoming credits your trade-in against the sales tax

Trading a car in here reduces the amount sales tax is charged on, so you are taxed on the price less your trade-in allowance. That is the common rule, but it is not universal — a handful of states tax the full sticker price regardless, and the calculator below applies whichever rule is actually Wyoming’s.

Local tax in Wyoming

A 4% state sales/use tax, collected not by the dealer but by the county treasurer before first registration. Counties may add a 1% general purpose option tax and a 1% specific purpose option tax, so combined rates run 4% to 6%; a few counties add an economic development tax of 0.25% to 0.5%, and two resort districts (Teton Village, Grand Targhee) add 2% for vendors physically inside them, reaching 8%. Rates move as county options are voted up or down. For calculation: documentary/dealer fees, incoming freight, accessories, preparation and handling, and standard warranties are INCLUDED in the taxable price; titling and licensing fees, outgoing freight and extended warranties are excluded. Payment is due within 65 days of purchase.
