Texas taxes a lease up front, not monthly

Local tax in Texas

No local add-on to the motor vehicle sales tax: 6.25% is the whole tax on a purchase, unlike the Texas general sales tax which carries local components. (The local sports and community venue district tax reaches short-term RENTALS only.) PRIVATE-PARTY SALES use Standard Presumptive Value: tax is computed on the GREATER of the sales price or 80% of SPV, unless a certified appraisal is provided. Related flat charges: $90 new resident tax in lieu of use tax, and a $10 gift tax. County registration add-ons run $0 to $31.50.
