Mississippi auto loan calculator

What a financed car actually costs out the door in Mississippi — the sales tax this state really charges, whether it credits your trade-in, and what the payment does to what you can borrow for a house.

Mississippi credits your trade-in against the sales tax

Trading a car in here reduces the amount sales tax is charged on, so you are taxed on the price less your trade-in allowance. That is the common rule, but it is not universal — a handful of states tax the full sticker price regardless, and the calculator below applies whichever rule is actually Mississippi’s.

Local tax in Mississippi

The 5% is a REDUCED VEHICLE-SPECIFIC RATE, not Mississippi's 7% general sales tax rate. Mississippi authorizes very little local sales taxation, so 5% is close to the whole picture at the point of sale. The much larger recurring cost is the annual county ad valorem tax collected with the tag, which is what makes Mississippi car tags expensive relative to its low purchase-point rate — see the registrationFee note.
