Local sales taxes apply on top of the 6.875% state rate and are meaningful in the Twin Cities metro, where regional transportation and housing taxes plus city/county options push the combined rate to roughly 7.4%-9.0% depending on jurisdiction. Minnesota DOR states motor vehicle leases are subject to the state general rate 'and any local sales taxes that apply'.
